Ada Sunrise Rotary has been part of the fight to end polio since our club was founded in 1992, and this year we're taking it online. Give to our End Polio Now fundraiser (matched 2-to-1 by the Gates Foundation), meet the alpacas at Pacas & Polio on October 17, and hear polio survivor Jerry Lout speak at our October 23 meeting.

Ending polio has been part of Ada Sunrise Rotary's work since our club was founded in 1992, and every year our members give to Rotary's PolioPlus Fund to help finish what Rotary started in 1985. This year, for the first time, we've opened that effort to the whole community with an online fundraiser, and we're inviting everyone in Ada and Pontotoc County to give alongside us.

Give online, any time

Donate at raise.rotary.org/en-GB/project/end-polio-now-with-ada-sunrise-rotary. The page stays open through the end of the Rotary year, and it has share buttons so you can pass it along to friends and family.

Our goal is $3,500. Every dollar given to PolioPlus is matched 2-to-1 by the Gates Foundation, so reaching our goal puts $10,500 into the fight. Just $3 protects a child from polio for life, and with the match, that's $1 out of your pocket.

Pacas & Polio: Saturday, October 17

The alpacas from BMK Acre are back! Join us at The Lot, 720 E Main St in Ada, to meet them and support the cause. A $5 donation gets you a picture with the alpacas, and a $1 donation gets you a temporary alpaca tattoo. All donations go to End Polio Now. Event time will be announced soon; watch our Facebook page for details.

Hear a polio survivor's story: Friday, October 23

October 24 is World Polio Day. The day before, guest speaker Jerry Lout will join our regular meeting at the Aldridge Ballroom (200 S. Broadway) to share his personal experience with polio. The meeting starts at 6:45 a.m., and guests are always welcome. If you've been curious about Rotary, this is a great morning to visit.

Why it matters

When Rotary began this fight, polio paralyzed around 350,000 children every year. Today, thanks to Rotarians, health workers, and partners like the World Health Organization, UNICEF, and the CDC, cases are down more than 99.9 percent. We are closer than we've ever been, and we're not stopping until it's gone for good.

Ways to help

  1. Share the donation link on your social media.
  2. Come to Pacas & Polio and to the October 23 meeting.
